Today I became vastly aware of the lack of self-control present in the adult society.
It baffles me that people perceive a simple phrase as an eraser for anything heinous that may tumble across their pretentious little lips.
"I don't mean to be rude, but. . . . "
"I don't want to play the *insert your choice of a 'protected' class* card but. . . . "
"Let me just be frank. . . ."
While I do not have perfect 20/20 vision, I am inclined to conclude that since I can easily make out all major shapes, colors and depths (and the state of Indiana says I can drive without vision assistance) I see no other individual holding a .38 Special, .45 Colt or 9mm to your temple, so I can only deduce that you do in fact have a choice.
Unless you wish to count lack of self control as a mental deficiency, therefore rendering the suffering individual incapable of decision making. . . .
Ah the joys of "social norms" makes me reminiscent of my college days.

Best lines from Harry Potter:
"I don't mean to be rude--" he {Mr Dursley} began, in a tone that threatened rudeness in every syllable.
"--yet, sadly, accidental rudeness occurs alarmingly often," Dumbledore finished the sentence gravely. "Best to say nothing at all, my dear man."
-- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, pg 46.
